Iowa Dept. of Agriculture Seeks to Inform Iowans about "Dangerous Wild Animals" Bill Jul 9, 2007
New laws take effect in Iowa Jul 03, 2007

The ban on owning wild animals was put together by the Legislature's only
veterinarian, Sen. Joe Seng, a Davenport Democrat. He said he sponsored the bill
in response to concerns from the Humane Society that Iowans are buying exotic
animals without knowing how to care for them. "Nobody wants an alligator right
next door," Seng said.
The law bans possession of lions, tigers, cougers, elephants and many other
types of wild animals. Iowans who already won the animals can keep them, but
they need to register with the state and pay a license fee.
